Chris Wright is a professional licensed disc jockey from Philadelphia, PA, a city well known for it's sound and music. He began spinning records at Mastbaum Vocational-Technical High School as a volunteer for dances and school functions. It became his passion as artist such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna climbed the pop charts. Chris joined the U.S. Navy in 1984 and was shipped off to San Diego, California. Although he was not in the fast-paced East Coast environment that he had become accustomed to, Chris never lost his passion for playing records and making people dance. Chris saved all of his money from his first few months of boot camp. Immediately after graduation, he left the base and headed for an electronics store. Chris purchased a cheap amplifier, a set of speakers, two turntables and a microphone. He looked up at the name of the store, "Discovery Electronics" and that is when Discovery Disc Jockeys was originated.
Chris found customers where and whenever he could. He would DJ for free so as long as he could set up his system and rock a crowd until the wee hours of the morning. He was discovered by a Chief Petty Officer at a local birthday party. The Chief recommended Chris to DJ at the Base Nightclub and his career in Disc Jockeying took off. Gaining a solid reputation as a mixmaster throughout the Military Base, Chris was recommended for parties, weddings, and major military functions. After Chris transferred to Norfolk, VA, his reputation as a mixmaster followed him. Chris attended Old Dominion University to study Criminal Justice and Business Marketing/Advertising. He used his knowledge to make Discovery Disc Jockeys one of the largest and most successful DJ businesses in Southeastern Virginia.
Chris moved to the Empire State in 2000 and has slowly but surely rebuilt his business. Using Customer Service, Honesty, and Integrity as his trademark and staple, Discovery Disc Jockey Service of New York will be the benchmark for the DJ industry for years to come.
Discovery Disc Jockey Service of New York as a licensed company was technically established in 2001 in Albany, NY. The company was mostly sub-contracted for hire by larger companies and many times nightclubs and local venues. The company was well known for its niche in corporate events such as company picnics, holiday parties, and annual functions. They blasted on to the wedding scene in the middle of 2002 with one of the largest weddings in Saratoga Springs, NY attended by over 450 guest. After that, the rest is history. Discovery Disc Jockeys of New York has facilitated over 200 weddings in New York State and has now moved its operation to Central New York.

Wedding DJ Costs
Wedding DJ pricing. So, how much does a wedding DJ cost?
You pretty much have most of the vendors chosen for your wedding, but now onto the wedding DJ pricing. So how much does a wedding DJ cost? You will see many different wedding DJ prices. So, keep these points in mind and you will find the right one.
Cheap Wedding DJ Prices These prices will usually be in the ranges of $75 per hour or less. Many of these wedding DJ’s are part-time hobbyists. They might have no idea how to coordinate and deliver what you want at your wedding. Just call these companies and you will notice a huge difference with their customer service skills. This might be a risky deal because they might show up with low grade equipment (if they even show up at all). There is a possibility that you can spend $200-$400 on your wedding DJ and be happy, but you have to understand what cheap wedding DJ prices really mean.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Never hire a wedding DJ that costs less than your veggie tray
Average Wedding DJ Pricing So, your biggest criteria were your budget, and you went way overboard. So, instead you and your fiancé decided to hire someone to “Just Play Music.” Do you want the good news or bad news first? Okay straight to the good news, you just saved a couple of hundred bucks! Unfortunately, your decision might cost you much more down the road. This category of wedding DJ’s is priced all over the place. Usually many are larger wedding DJ companies that subcontract 15-25 wedding DJ’s every weekend. They improve their profit margin this way (more DJ’s=smaller profit margin) to support advertisements and overhead. There are many good DJ’s that are subcontracted by these companies. However, they might be so big that you might not even know who your wedding DJ will be until the week of.
I said earlier that there is a difference between a full-time company and part-time hobbyist. A full-time company depends on your referrals to generate future leads and business. This means that they are 110% dedicated to your wedding reception. The wedding DJ cost needs be looked at with their references. Ask for recent clients’ names, phone numbers, and e-mails. When I say recent I mean 6 months or less when available. Any reputable company will be able to give you this information.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Let the buyer beware
Expensive Wedding DJ Prices These people may charge anywhere from $1500-$4500. There may be added value, such as an additional DJ/wedding coordinator, lighting, staging, dancers, or props. Other times, this price is determined by an owner with an over inflated ego. If their wedding DJ cost is expensive, then this does not mean that they have instant credibility. This price might be marked up since they do not have enough word of mouth referrals yet. You should not have to take out a second mortgage to pay for your wedding DJ cost.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Get everything in writing, and question anything that might be overkill
How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost So, how much does a wedding DJ cost? This depends on how comfortable you are with the lighting, experience, equipment, music, and fun options. You should try unique things because your wedding is far from ordinary. This does not mean you need to break the bank with wedding DJ prices, but see what options are really worth the cost. The typical wedding DJ cost can vary from $450-$1200, and be dependant upon the amount of time your event is and miles of travel for the DJ. In the short term the wedding DJ price will be a factor in your budget, and in the long term 80% of the success of your wedding is based on the entertainment. If you want to have a great time, you will interview multiple companies.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Stay away from the cheapest, don’t go with the most expensive and do not hire anyone that is simply average.
To choose a DJ for your reception day requires a great amount of time and dedication. your reception DJ should have songs for all kinds of people to make them happy and enjoy your reception.
Sometimes it may be difficult to judge the mood of the audience as there are different types of people at every party. Keep the latest music with you and listen to all kinds of radio stations to get a wide range of music.
