Patrick O’Connell
This month we are taking the time to spotlight one of the newest KJ’s on the block. Patrick O’ was born 26 years ago in Stuttgart, Germany while his dad was doing his tour of duty in the service for this very wonderful country of ours.
Patrick has lived in Woodstock GA. For most of his life and graduated from Sprayberry High School. He was a member of his high school band He also plays Guitar & Base, He writes his own music and has perform with many garage bands, Patrick has also ran a recording studio out of his house.
He has been involved with Karaoke for only a short time with going to shows for about a year and a half 7 nights a week, he started buying his own disc so that he would have stuff that others did not have and about three months ago when he realized that the corporate world was just not his cup of tea Patrick decided to get his own equipment and start doing Karaoke shows.
Now being one of the newest KJ’s on the block he wanted to be different so he went around to a bunch of different shows and learned from all of the KJ’s that he met, he then went out and invested in one of the most sophisticated system that you will see out there today.
With his computer system he has over 11,000 songs on his hard drive and is able to cross reference songs so that every singer can sing the exact version that they want to, plus he is able to get singers up & down a whole lot faster allowing everyone to sing the just about as many songs as they want to in one evening
The sound that comes from his show is beyond belief with the giant Mackie Speakers that he has, thank god he is always at the same club because he would have to have a very strong back to be lugging around all of that stuff everyday.
Patrick also has the ability to play your CDG’s if you want to and his only request is that they are not scratched, and unlike other shows that the KJ can only change a key on songs Patrick’s system allows him to slow down or speed up music
Patrick said he loves the friendships he has been able to make and the hours do not bother him
Now as some of you know sometimes it takes somebody in the background giving you the support that you need and With the support he gets from his girlfriend Jessica he has it all
When asked Jessica will tell you that she loves him doing this and the hours do not bother her because she gets to spend so much time with him all day long.
You can find Jessica at the shows talking with people and making sure everyone is happy but you will not find her singing or talking on the mics She has stated that there is not enough liquid courage in this world to get her up there (We’ll see)
Now with the way Karaoke is changing all of the time I think Patrick is one step ahead of the rest, So keep an eye on this wonderful person because he will be going a long way in this industry
(This Month our Hat is off to you Patrick O)

TOWNE LAKE BILLIARDS
By: Anthony Soto (Staff writer)
In my never-ending endeavor to find the ultimate in karaoke experience, I stumbled upon a quaint establishment located in Woodstock, Georgia on Highway 92, just off Canton Road. It was one of the coldest nights of the year, and I ventured in for a quick hot toddy or seven. To my pleasant surprise, Towne Lake Billiards was not the sort of dingy pool hall you would expect to see Steven Seagal or Chuck Norris rent out to film a bar fight for a movie, but rather it was a well-lit, well kept concern with wonderful round pub tables made of solid dark wood with comfortable stools. The aft portion of the bar/restaurant area is inhabited with a rectangular bar area with wonderful carved wood structure hanging over it to house all the glassware as well as the finer liquors offered for my indulgence. On the other side of the entrance were several billiard tables with well-combed felt lining and clean walking areas. It seemed a bit more of an English Gentleman's club than a billiard bar.
Alas, I am neither English nor a gentleman. However, I was promptly greeted by a very sweet young lady who seated me without hesitation and quickly took my beverage order. Ginger ale on the rocks, I pleaded, upon which I discerned what appeared to be a stage with monitors, microphones and an empty space beckoning singers to fill its void. I was extremely hungry this night, so singing would have to wait. I looked at the menu for relief.
I ordered buffalo wings to satisfy my hunger and to my surprise they arrived not too long after I ordered them. Let me tell you, they were among the biggest I have ever had. (Congressional inquiry into chickens on steroids, anyone?) Mind you, the selection of food at Towne Lake Billiards is very limited, since their priority is to serve primarily as a billiard hall and bar. However, what little they offered in food I found to be served in delectable, hearty sized portions. I also highly recommend the personal pan pizzas with any of the fine draft selections from the bar to accompany it. Prices for food and beverage are on par with what you would normally find at most any pub, so don't worry about paying Turner Field prices for a beer and a frank. This is Woodstock, not mid-town Manhattan.
Ah, but my appetites were still not satisfied with just the wings. I felt compelled to sing poetry about my poultry. To accommodate my musical craving, I approached the very kind young man whose youthful appearance belied the oodles of technical knowledge residing deeply within him. This gentleman was none other than the KJ, Mr. Patrick O' (the O' stands for O'Connell, lest you think he is related to our beloved editor).
I engaged this kind man in conversation about his system and found him to be perhaps the most technologically advanced KJ out there. First off, unlike most karaoke systems, his system is completely computer driven. Patrick has over 11,000 songs on hard drive. The really neat thing about his computer-based system is that any song can be retrieved much more quickly than digging through endless cd cases for the actual disc. What's even more important is that Patrick is able to keep the singers coming up at a good clip, ensuring that everyone gets to sing as many times as possible during the night..
The sound is amazingly good for a venue this small. Patrick is constantly tweaking his system speakers for the perfect mix for each singer. In the event of a breakdown or other catastrophic technological failure, Patrick has everything backed up on a second system. That's right; in the event of biological warfare or worldwide thermonuclear meltdown caused by international separatists disgruntled with the political agendas of their respective governmental nation-states, you'll still be able to get up and sing "Baby Got Back".
Purists, fear not!! For those of us who bring our own stash of discs, Patrick is also able and more than willing to play those also. The owner was also a very affable chap who visibly enjoyed the singing talent present that night (among which was me. Ahem.) I strongly recommend Towne lake Billiards as a place where food and drink are served in large sized portions and the karaoke is served up with whiz-bang technology as well as kind-hearted sophistication. Shows run from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturdays and Sundays from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Wedding DJ Costs
Wedding DJ pricing. So, how much does a wedding DJ cost?
You pretty much have most of the vendors chosen for your wedding, but now onto the wedding DJ pricing. So how much does a wedding DJ cost? You will see many different wedding DJ prices. So, keep these points in mind and you will find the right one.
Cheap Wedding DJ Prices These prices will usually be in the ranges of $75 per hour or less. Many of these wedding DJ’s are part-time hobbyists. They might have no idea how to coordinate and deliver what you want at your wedding. Just call these companies and you will notice a huge difference with their customer service skills. This might be a risky deal because they might show up with low grade equipment (if they even show up at all). There is a possibility that you can spend $200-$400 on your wedding DJ and be happy, but you have to understand what cheap wedding DJ prices really mean.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Never hire a wedding DJ that costs less than your veggie tray
Average Wedding DJ Pricing So, your biggest criteria were your budget, and you went way overboard. So, instead you and your fiancé decided to hire someone to “Just Play Music.” Do you want the good news or bad news first? Okay straight to the good news, you just saved a couple of hundred bucks! Unfortunately, your decision might cost you much more down the road. This category of wedding DJ’s is priced all over the place. Usually many are larger wedding DJ companies that subcontract 15-25 wedding DJ’s every weekend. They improve their profit margin this way (more DJ’s=smaller profit margin) to support advertisements and overhead. There are many good DJ’s that are subcontracted by these companies. However, they might be so big that you might not even know who your wedding DJ will be until the week of.
I said earlier that there is a difference between a full-time company and part-time hobbyist. A full-time company depends on your referrals to generate future leads and business. This means that they are 110% dedicated to your wedding reception. The wedding DJ cost needs be looked at with their references. Ask for recent clients’ names, phone numbers, and e-mails. When I say recent I mean 6 months or less when available. Any reputable company will be able to give you this information.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Let the buyer beware
Expensive Wedding DJ Prices These people may charge anywhere from $1500-$4500. There may be added value, such as an additional DJ/wedding coordinator, lighting, staging, dancers, or props. Other times, this price is determined by an owner with an over inflated ego. If their wedding DJ cost is expensive, then this does not mean that they have instant credibility. This price might be marked up since they do not have enough word of mouth referrals yet. You should not have to take out a second mortgage to pay for your wedding DJ cost.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Get everything in writing, and question anything that might be overkill
How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost So, how much does a wedding DJ cost? This depends on how comfortable you are with the lighting, experience, equipment, music, and fun options. You should try unique things because your wedding is far from ordinary. This does not mean you need to break the bank with wedding DJ prices, but see what options are really worth the cost. The typical wedding DJ cost can vary from $450-$1200, and be dependant upon the amount of time your event is and miles of travel for the DJ. In the short term the wedding DJ price will be a factor in your budget, and in the long term 80% of the success of your wedding is based on the entertainment. If you want to have a great time, you will interview multiple companies.
At 800DJ, our recommendation: Stay away from the cheapest, don’t go with the most expensive and do not hire anyone that is simply average.
To choose a DJ for your reception day requires a great amount of time and dedication. your reception DJ should have songs for all kinds of people to make them happy and enjoy your reception.
Sometimes it may be difficult to judge the mood of the audience as there are different types of people at every party. Keep the latest music with you and listen to all kinds of radio stations to get a wide range of music.
