Teens have a different view of music today.
In the past music was something you purchased at a record store or department store after you heard it and loved it on the radio. Now today things have changed dramatically.
I remember as a kid growing up, our way of getting free music meant recording hours of your favorite radio station, and listening for your favorite songs to copy to cassette tape. If a friend had a song you liked maybe you could get them to make a ‘dub’ for you on cassette 3rd generation and the sound was pretty awful. Now with the advent of the mp3 file and mp3 players like the iPod many people share hundreds of songs (still illegally like cassette dubbing was) in perfect quality. Note: There is no quality loss when you copy one mp3 file to another drive.
The other thing that has changed is where teens get their idea of new music or good music. Now they go to social media sites like myspace.com, facebook.com, and youtube.com to find tracks they think are hot. The radio, while still influential with those over 30, it is less and less influential in teens and twenty somethings.
